- Skip if
- You want dense creamy gelato. Sicilian style is lighter and slightly icier by design.
What everybody agrees on
Read across public reviews on TripAdvisor, Yelp and Italian gelato writing in September 2026. Around 100 reviews on Yelp alone, consistently positive.
- Nearly all
The granita is the thing. Italian gelato writers compare it to what you would get in a good Palermo bar, which is high praise here.
- Most
The owner and staff are named in review after review for the welcome, which turns a two minute stop into a small event.
- Most
Cannoli are filled when you order rather than sitting ready, which is the correct way and rare in Florence.
- Often
Pistachio and ricotta are the flavours people come back for.
- Some
The texture is lighter and icier than Tuscan gelato. Some reviewers expected creamier and say so.
- A few
Portions are modest for the price.
What to order
Granita rather than gelato, and coffee granita with cream if it is morning. That is a Sicilian breakfast and it works in Florence in August.
Before you go
- Getting there
- Via Ricasoli, on the walk between the Duomo and the Accademia.
- Best time
- Late morning, or as a break from the queue for David.
- Seating
- A bench inside. Mostly a counter and takeaway.
Citrus, jasmine, almond: the flavour vocabulary is Sicilian rather than Tuscan, and the granite are the real reason to come in July. Being close to the queue for the David means it gets busy, but the product is the same as it was before the street became what it is.
