- Go for
- Standing at a nineteenth century wooden counter behind the market with a glass and a panino, the way this was done before anybody called it a wine bar.
- Skip if
- You want to sit down. There is almost nowhere to, and that is not a flaw.
What everybody agrees on
Read across public reviews on Google and TripAdvisor plus Italian wine writing in September 2026.
- Nearly all
The room does half the work. Carved wooden cabinets from the 1800s, bottles floor to ceiling, and a counter people have been standing at for generations.
- Most
The panini are made with real care and are the thing to eat rather than an afterthought to the wine.
- Most
Glasses change often and lean towards small artisan producers rather than familiar names.
- Often
It is tucked behind the San Lorenzo market stalls, which is why people walk past it for years without seeing it.
- Some
There is barely any seating. This is a standing bar.
What to order
A glass of whatever is open and a panino with finocchiona. Eat standing, at the counter, and do not plan on staying an hour.
Before you go
- Getting there
- Behind the San Lorenzo market stalls, five minutes from the Mercato Centrale.
- Best time
- Late morning or lunch, when the market is running.
- Note
- Standing room. Closed on Sundays.
The name is literal. Wine on shelves floor to ceiling, a marble counter, no tables to speak of, and a plate of crostini or a panino to go with the glass. It works on the market’s rhythm rather than the tourist one, which means it is busiest in the middle of the day and shut when the market is. The kind of place where standing next to strangers is the format, not an inconvenience.
