About an hour and a half from the city, then a walk of roughly two hours each way on a marked path. The falls drop over a wide rock shelf into a pool, and in the fourteenth canto Dante compares the noise of a river in hell to this one. Best in spring and after rain, thin in high summer. Boots rather than trainers, and it is a full day, not an afternoon.
