The beach under San Niccolo
Every summer a stretch of gravel on the south bank turns into a bar with deck chairs, a screen and a view straight up the river at the bridges. Free to walk in.

It appears in June, works from late afternoon until late, and disappears again in autumn. Nobody swims, the Arno is not for that. What you get is the rare experience of being at the level of the water rather than above it, with the bridges lined up in front of you and the city’s noise somewhere overhead.
