Founded in the eleventh century and still working, sitting on a rise with vines running away from it in every direction. The refectory holds a Last Supper by Domenico and Davide Ghirlandaio from 1476, visitable on guided days.
The reason most people come is the surroundings: the abbey is the postcard image of Chianti without being a town, and the walk around it through vineyards takes an hour.
About forty minutes by car south of Florence towards Tavarnelle. There is a wine estate at the foot of the hill.
