What everybody agrees on
Read across roughly 1,700 public reviews on Restaurant Guru, TripAdvisor and Yelp in September 2026. Rated 4.9 on Restaurant Guru.
- Nearly all
The terrace view is the reason. The dome fills the frame and there is no ticket and no queue to get to it.
- Most
Prices are the second surprise. Coffee and a glass cost what they cost in a normal bar, not what a view usually costs in Florence.
- Most
It is a working library, so the crowd is students and Florentines rather than visitors.
- Often
It runs late, until around midnight, which is unusual for anywhere with a view this central.
- Often
There is space to sit with a laptop for hours without anyone minding.
- Some
The terrace fills at sunset, and the indoor room is ordinary by comparison.
What to order
Go up at six, take a table on the terrace side, and order whatever. Nobody comes here for the menu, and the staff know it.
Before you go
- Getting there
- Via dell'Oriuolo, five minutes east of the Duomo.
- Entrance
- Through the library. Walk in and take the lift or the stairs to the top.
- Closed
- Sunday.
- Best time
- Late afternoon, or after nine when the terrace thins.
Four hundred metres from the Duomo, full of students rather than tour groups. Nobody rushes you out, laptops are normal, and it is the only place in the centre where you can sit with that view without paying a rooftop bar for it. Inside the library building, so it keeps library hours rather than bar hours.
