A state owned park that Florentines treat as their own. Giuseppe Poggi laid it out in the 1800s for Count Archinto, planting lime, elm and horse chestnut across what had been olive and mulberry, so the park alternates between woodland and open meadow with the city appearing between them.

There is a small lake with an island and a bridge near the entrance. Higher up, the grass slopes give one of the best free views in Florence, and you will often have it to yourself.

Bus 10 from Piazza San Marco towards Settignano, or about thirty five minutes on foot from Piazza Beccaria up Via Aldini. Hours are seasonal and the gates close, so check before a late visit.
